Chippenham re-accredited with Purple Flag

Chippenham has been re-accredited with a Purple Flag Award, a recognition of its commitment to creating a dynamic, secure, and vibrant evening and night-time economy.

This re-accreditation is testament to the Town Council’s leadership in driving forward the Purple Flag initiative locally and bringing together the many partners involved.

Purple Flags – similar to the Blue Flag for beaches – aims to raise the standard and broaden the appeal of town and city centres between the hours of 5 pm to 5 am. This prestigious award highlights Chippenham’s blend of entertainment, dining, and culture, all while ensuring the safety and well-being of residents and visitors in the evening and night-time economy.

The assessors commented that the key successes in Chippenham’s submission include the new pavement licences in the Market Place to boost café culture. The renewed Pubwatch scheme now has 22 licensed venues, making it Wiltshire’s third-largest, and is being used to deliver valuable training and strengthen community safety.

There are 90 Purple Flag destinations around the globe across the UK, Ireland, Sweden, Malta, New Zealand and Australia. This includes world-renowned tourist destinations to small market towns.

Purple Flag has represented the gold standard of evening and night-time economy management for nearly 15 years.
